Renaissance Philosophy
In the Western tradition, "Renaissance Philosophy" refers to the period after Medieval Philosophy but before so-called Modern Philosophy. There are no exact dates delimiting the period, but many would roughly estimate it as spanning the 15th and 16th centuries. Some of the key philosophers are Nicholas of Cusa, Francis Bacon, Niccolo Machiavelli, Desiderius Erasmus, Thomas More, Giordano Bruno, Galileo Galilei, and Francisco Suarez. Some of these thinkers embraced science and the scientific method, while others wrote primarily on ethics and political philosophy. Much of this period can also be seen as a reaction to and growth away from the ideas and schools that dominated the medieval period. See also: Renaissance Philosophers.
