EpistemeLinks.com Update Newsletter, v.7, #2, 2/18/2003
------------------------------------------------------
I hope this email finds you doing well. I have plenty of items to report
this time around, so I'll get right to it.
As always, the latest particular links added to the ELC database can be
found at the What's New? page:
Newsletter Headlines:
** Philosophy-related Products Section Improved **
** ELC Homepage Displays Current Birthdays and Dates of Death **
** Entries from Biography.com Added **
** Entries from Bloomsbury's "Guide to Human Thought" Restored **
** Video Section includes Films for the Humanities and Sciences **
** New Features in Events Section **
** Departments Section Links Updated **
** New Entries at the SEP **
** Upcoming Events in Philosophy (March/April) **
Details for each item follow below.
** Philosophy-related Products Section Improved **
The Philosophy-related Products section was greatly enhanced to link
directly to the pages for individual products (instead of store/creator
homepages only). The 20 or so links I had are now replaced by over 175 product
links, all categorized by philosopher as appropriate. Product types include Art
prints and posters, busts and sculptures, T-Shirts, coffee-mugs, stationary and
notepads, magnets, and more!
** ELC Homepage Displays Current Birthdays and Dates of Death **
The ELC homepage now displays the current day's philosopher birthdays and
dates of death (with the years for each). This information is displayed in a
gray box in the column on the right. You can click on the names to see that
philosopher's main page. The dates are the same as those used in the Birthday
and Date of Death calendars.
** Entries from Biography.com Added **
I have now added several hundred links in the main Philosophers section to
entries from Biography.com. Most are very brief -- often only one paragragh
long. Some are several paragraphs, with a few even longer.
** Entries from Bloomsbury's "Guide to Human Thought" Restored **
In the encyclopedia entries section I have now restored the 190 links to
philosophy-related entries from Bloomsbury's "Guide to Human Thought." This
resource was formerly available from xrefer.com, but was later removed. It is
now available directly from Bloomsbury.
** Video Section includes Films for the Humanities and Sciences **
The Philosophy Video section now includes 60 links to video titles
available from Films for the Humanities and Sciences.
** New Features in Events Section **
The Events section has been improved in several ways. You can now search
the database of events (which includes over 250 events from 2001-2003) by
Country or by US State -- see the options below the calendar display. Also, the
entries in the calendar are now linked to the specific further information about
each conference that appears further down the page.
** Departments Section Links Updated **
My dead-link checker tool was most recently applied to the University
Departments section. As a result, I have been able to update over 150 department
links that were no longer functional. I also added numerous new philosophy
departments (see the What's New page).
** New Entries at the SEP **
I like to draw attention to the latest entries at the Stanford Encyclopedia
of Philosophy, because it provides such well-written articles. Since my last
newsletter, the SEP has added 25 more articles, listed below. These articles are
all linked from their What's New page at

parentheses)
