EpistemeLinks.com Update Newsletter, v.7, #3,  5/10/2003
------------------------------------------------------
http://www.epistemelinks.com/
There are over 1400 direct subscribers to this newsletter!

I hope this email finds you doing well. It has been a while since the last newsletter, entirely due to an eye problem I had during the months of March and early April. After a dozen visits to a specialist and several prescription medications, the eye is fine again. However, less additions and new features were added to EpistemeLinks.com during this time.

For those finishing up their winter/spring semesters as students or professors, I hope all goes well and that you enjoy the beginning of your summer!

As always, the latest particular links added to the ELC database can be found at the What's New? page:
http://www.epistemelinks.com/New.aspx

Newsletter Headlines:
** Nearly Two Hundred Additional Quotations Added **
** Ever Wonder How Many Total Links are at ELC? **
** Current eBay Listings Shown for Select Philosophers **
** New Dead Links Page **
** Spring Cleaning of the Naming Conventions Used **
** Banner Ads Removed from Top of Each Page **
** New Affiliate Links Page **
** New Entries at the SEP **
** Upcoming Events in Philosophy (March/April) **

Details for each item follow below.

** Nearly Two Hundred Additional Quotations Added **
I have added many additional quotations to the database. There are now over 475 quotations by the philosophers indexed at this site, many of them also categorized by topic areas.

** Ever Wonder How Many Total Links are at ELC? **
The FAQ page has been updated to include the current link totals for each main section of the site. EpistemeLinks.com currently includes over 13,000 categorized links!

** Current eBay Listings Shown for Select Philosophers **
I have added a feature at the bottom of many philosopher pages that will show up to ten related items currently available at eBay. Books by or about the philosopher are by far the most common items, but others include art prints, busts, and other items (the philosopher's name must be included in the title to be listed, so a more general search at eBay may turn up additional items). The current bid price and the time remaining are shown in the table. Only several dozen philosophers have this feature, i.e., the most likely to have related items available at eBay on a regular basis.

** New Dead Links Page **
I have now created a page that lists dead links -- the links that were once included in the database, but for whatever reason are no longer correct. These are sites that, if they still exist in a different location, I would like to locate and include at EpistemeLinks.com once again. Please let me know if you find any of these resources in your web travels.

** Spring Cleaning of the Naming Conventions Used **
I have improved the system of names used for Philosophers. Most notably, I reconsidered the alphabetization scheme used, and made some modifications. I am now providing a simple page that lists the philosophers who could reasonably be listed in more than one place alphabetically and where they are in fact listed at EpistemeLinks.com. I also improved the names used for the extended search and book links (Google, Ebay, Amazon, etc.). I also decided to alter the 4-letter codes used for a few philosophers throughout the site (e.g., John Duns Scotus is now "Duns" instead of "Scot".)

** Banner Ads Removed from Top of Each Page **
Some general "spring-cleaning" has been done to make the site visually cleaner. The banner/button advertising has been removed from the top of each page (still present at the bottom in the footer section). Also, the growing Affiliate links in the footer have been removed in favor of general information about the site.

** New Affiliate Links Page **
Related to the removal of the banner ads in the header section, I have now created a one-stop Affiliates page that includes links to companies selling a wide range of products and services. You can help support EpistemeLinks.com by using these links to make your purchases from these companies. If you are going to shop at one of these sites anyway, why not start at this page and help support a site you use for philosophy research? You might consider bookmarking this page for easy access.

** New Entries at the SEP **
I like to draw attention to the latest entries at the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, because it provides such well-written articles.
