Time for another ELC Update Newsletter! Several new features were added recently, and many more are in the works.

As always, the latest particular links added to the ELC database can be found at the What's New? page:

Newsletter Headlines:
** Amazon.com Web Services Book Search **
** Over 400 Links to Columbia Encyclopedia Entries Added **
** Link Sweep Updates/Removes Hundreds of Dead Links **
** 186 Additional Links to Quotation Pages Added **
** LookSmart Links In, AltaVista Links Out **
** New Entries at the SEP **
** Upcoming Events in Philosophy (November and December) **

Details for each item follow below.

** Amazon.com Web Services Section Added **
A new feature of the site has been added: Amazon.com Web Services Book Search. Here I provide a form for keyword searches of the books database at Amazon.com. You can search by philosopher, topic, tradition/period, concept, or any word of your choice. You can combine search terms to narrowly filter your results. The results are displayed here at EpistemeLinks.com, which allows you to quickly modify your searches to find what you are after. And remember... by making purchases at Amazon.com by following these links, you are helping to support EpistemeLinks.com and its creator. Thanks!

** Over 400 Links to Columbia Encyclopedia Entries Added **
The Encyclopedia and Reference section now has over 400 links to entries from The Columbia Encyclopedia (2001, Sixth Edition), available online at Bartleby.com.

** Link Sweep Updates/Removes Hundreds of Dead Links **
I have again undertaken a "dead-link" sweep of the ELC database, looking for URLs that need to be updated or removed if no site can be found. So far, this investigation has cleaned up hundreds of URLs in the University Departments, Classroom Resources, Journals, Organizations, Publishers, and E-Texts sections. Additional sections will be researched in the coming weeks. As always, if you find a link that you think might be broken, please let me know and I will investigate.

** 186 Additional Links to Quotation Pages Added **
An additional 150 links were added to the Quotations section. These are the philosopher quotations pages from The Philosophers Magazine's database of quotations. I've also added 36 links in the Quotations section to philosopher quote pages at WikiQuote.org.

** LookSmart Links In, AltaVista Links Out **
I have removed the AltaVista directory links from the ELC database. AltaVista is using the same underlying directory that Google is, so having both was redundant. In place of these links I have added over 200 links to the directory sections at LookSmart. These will appear, along with links to directory pages at Google and Yahoo, at the bottom of each Philosopher and Topic main page. The new LookSmart links are not listed individually below.

** New Entries at the SEP **
I like to draw attention to the latest entries at the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, because it provides such well-written articles. Since my last newsletter, the SEP has added 22 more articles, listed below. These articles are all linked from their publication list page at http://plato.stanford.edu/published.html. (Authors are given in parentheses)
