Happy New Year! I hope this email
newsletter finds you doing well and enjoying the season. I know that many
readers are off from school right now and gearing up to go back to another
semester of teaching, learning, researching, or writing, and I hope your
endeavors start out well in the new year.
Several worthy items to report
since the mid-November newsletter -- with the first being the most important as
it effects future versions of this newsletter. So please read on!
As
always, the latest particular links added to the ELC database can be found at
the What's New? page:

** This Email Newsletter will be Changing -- IMPORTANT
**
The process by which this email newsletter is sent to subscribers will
soon change. Instead of being managed manually, I intend to use a "groups"
service, likely the Yahoo! Groups service. The group created will be only for
the distribution of this email newsletter -- I will be the only one allowed to
send an email to the group, and it will *not* be a discussion group. This move
will have many beneficial effects. Maintaining the subscription list is now one
of the most time-consuming aspects of running this website. Many people get
dropped from the subscription list unintentionally, due to SPA*M filters on
their University or ISP servers. Making this switch will likely allow me to send
out more timely newsletters -- perhaps as often as once per month (instead of
only 5 or 6 times a year).
In order to make this switch, ACTION will be
required by you. In order to prohibit junk mail and unintended subscribers, you
will need to formally subscribe to the newsletter again. Please DO NOTHING right
now. You will receive an email in the near future inviting you -- as a current
subscriber -- to join the new distribution list for this newsletter. It will
include instructions on how to do this -- it will be VERY SIMPLE and will be
your way of acknowledging that you do wish to continue to receive this
EpistemeLinks.com Update newsletter. Thank you for your patience during this
process.
** Philosopher Images Added **
75 images of individual
philosophers have been added to the site. These are displayed near the top of
each of that philosopher's pages, just under the name and next to any
birth/death date information. I hope to add more images in the near future.
These first 75 are versions of the images provided by the Thoemmes Continuum
gallery, a wonderful resource that provides hundreds of images of philosophers
and other intellectuals throughout history.

EBay.com Auction Search Feature Added **
A new feature of the site has been
added: EBay Auction Search Results. Here I provide a form for keyword searches
of the database of items available for auction at eBay.com. You can search using
the provided philosopher or topic drop-down menus, or you can type in your own
keyword. Up to 50 results are displayed at EpistemeLinks.com, with links to each
item's page at eBay and a link to the complete search results. Links for search
results pages will also be found in some of the philosopher and topic "Related
Resources" sections at the top. If you are not yet an eBay user, I encourage you
to follow the links at this site and sign up... there are always millions of
items available for auction every day.

The Dead Link Sweep Continues **
In the fall I began to once again clean out
the dead links in the ELC database. Many sections have been covered so far, with
hundreds of URLs being removed or, when possible, corrected. The latest section
to get this treatment is the large Electronic Texts section, with work there
likely to wrap up in mid-January.
** New Entries at the SEP **
I
like to draw attention to the latest entries at the Stanford Encyclopedia of
Philosophy, because it provides such well-written articles. Since my last
newsletter, the SEP has added 10 more articles, listed below. These articles are
all linked from their publication list page at http://plato.stanford.edu/published.html. (Authors are
given in parentheses)
Rule-consequentialism (Brad Hooker)
Francis
Bacon (Juergen Klein)
Legal Obligation and Authority (Leslie
Green)
Feminist Approaches to the Intersection of Analytic and Continental
Philosophy (Georgia Warnke)
Plato on Rhetoric and Poetry (Charles
Griswold)
Medieval Semiotics (Stephan Meier-Oeser)
Mental Causation (David
Robb and John Heil)
Hume's Aesthetics (Ted Gracyk)
Simon of Faversham
(John Longeway)
Phenomenology (David Woodruff Smith)
